Pittsburgh International Airport Area Restaurants
Most of the restaurants of interest fall into one of two areas: those in the University Boulevard area, near the Doubletree Hotel (Indicated by a red star on Area 1) and those at or near Robinson Town Centre/The Pointe (Area 2), the big shopping area where Routes 22 and 60 intersect. Luckily, to get between University Blvd. and The Pointe, just turn right from the hotel parking lot and follow the Orange Belt signs. This listing does not include any restaurants on airport property or in the Hyatt.
Sadly, Pennsylvania is still mired in the 20th century and most restaurants and bars permit smoking. Luckily for those of us who like to breathe while we enjoy a beer, some local bars have gone non-smoking!
Recommendations
Bocktown Beer and Grille 690 Chauvet Dr, Pool City/Target Plaza (past Levin's), 412-788-2333, 11am-mid, Area 2: For a good burger, great French fries, wings, and beer. It's a non-smoking bar that also serves some very good pub food. They have sixteen craft beers on draft, and about 400 in bottles in their beer library. Beer is also available for carry out.
Ya Fei Robinson Towne Centre, 1980 Park Manor, 412-788-9388, Area 2, 11:30am-9:30pm Fri & Sat, 1pm-9pm Sun. Varied menu-pan-Asian, sushi. Probably the best Chinese food in the area, good for small groups.
Hyeholde Restaurant 1516 Coraopolis Heights Rd near Beaver Grade Rd, Moon Township, 412-264-3116, Area 1: For a very nice dinner out, the Hyeholde is the best restaurant in the region--elegant French, huge wine list, make a reservation!
Doubletree Hotel University Boulevard Jacksons Restaurant Rotisserie open 7am-10pm: Very good hotel restaurant, bar menu also available.
Beer Store 6052 University, 412-299-1944, Area 1: Good place to buy up to 200 different kinds of inexpensive beer.
Area 1: University Boulevard, Moon Township/Coraopolis
Across from the Doubltree Hotel: Bob Evans 8405 University, 412-269-0333, opens at 6am: Great breakfasts, smokefree.
Take a left out of the Doubletree Hotel parking lot to reach:
Angelia's Pizza 202 Moon Clinton on left, 412-262-4976: Good pizza, wings, salads -- yes, they deliver!
Starbucks Coffee 825 Beaver Grade Rd on right, then take first left, 412-604-0210, opens at 7am.
Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald's Taco Bell, Al's Pizza, K-Mart, Kuhn's groceries, Dollar Bank and a beer distributor are also in this area, take a right onto Beaver Grade Rd; most of these restaurants/stores are on the left. Hyeholde not far away.
Imperial Choice 6506 University, 412-269-2677: Decent Chinese buffet. PNC Bank, Burger King, Beer Store nearby.
Giant Eagle 5990 University, 7am-11pm: Groceries, deli, bakery, café, pharmacy, Mellon Bank.
Follow the Orange Belt north to Sewickley for China Palace 412-749-7423 and Sharp Edge 412-749-0305-beer and Belgian food and no smoking! Sewickley has a small downtown with little stores/restaurants and no big box stores.
