Welcome to the Smofcon 2016 Fannish Inquisition!

What is the Fannish Inquisition?

Each year at Smofcon the Fannish Inquisition is held as an opportunity for seated conventions and bids to present to their community of conrunners and answer questions.

Thanks to Kevin Standlee for recording the Fannish Inquisition presentations at Smofcon 34.

Why?

It’s good to be informed! This is a chance to hear from all the conventions and bids and ask questions. This is also a great opportunity for conventions and bids to let the community know their status and how the community can be helpful now.

Who?

This year there will be TWO Fannish Inquisition sessions. Your inquisitors will be Stephen Boucher, Deb Geisler, Randall Shepherd, and Leslie Turek.

When?

The Saturday afternoon session will be 2:30-3:30pm and will be for Helsinki, San Jose, and San Juan – the seated Worldcons and NASFiC. The conventions will have time for a presentation followed by Q&A. The inquisitors will be Randall Shepherd and Leslie Turek.

The Saturday evening session (8-10:30pm) will start with bid presentations for the 2017 Smofcon, followed immediately by the vote. Any future Smofcon bids will then present. Following the Smofcon bids, all Worldcon bids through 2024 will then present. The conventions will have time for a presentation followed by Q&A. The inquisitors will be Stephen Boucher and Deb Geisler.

Where?

Our main programming room, O’Hare I at the Crowne Plaza in Rosemont.

Q&A

We have asked all bidders to complete a FAQ about their bid. These will answer many common questions, thereby saving time at the FI for more detailed questions. You can click on the links below to see the FAQs.

Even if you are not planning to attend Smofcon, please review the FAQs and feel free to submit questions. The submission form is here.

During the FI, the Inquisitors will be asking some questions, including questions submitted ahead of the FI by attendees (click here to submit your questions), and there will also be time for attendees to ask questions via submitting index cards with questions to be read by the inquisitors.

[[Archival note: Thanks to Helen Montgomery & Leane Verhulst for recovering most of the FAQs I had lost.]]
